An Explosion of Flavors at RBG Bar & Grill

RBG Bar & Grill’s new offering will challenge your taste buds when it comes to how much spicy flavor you can take in. If you love spicy food, then RBG Xplode is perfect for your taste and might not be much of a challenge, instead it will be a fun set meal to share with your friends, family and food trip squad!

We came up with this innovative food promotion to give our diners an exciting meal. RBG Xplode is not just about being spicy but it is more of giving spice a unique taste” says Emelyn Rosales, General Manager.

Savor the 3 Chili Pizza, Burger Bar with 3 Spicy Sauces and Garlic Fries on the side plus a set of Strawberry Wasabi, Chocolate Labuyo and Cinnamon Donuts.

RBG Xplode Park inn by Radisson Davao

Just our secret… the pizza gives the most surprise when it comes to spice. Ms. Izza told me you may request for the spicy flavor to be lessened just in case not everyone is up to the spiciness of this meal.

RBG Xplode Burger Bar with 3 Spicy Sauces

The fries is garlic flavor and almost no hint of spiciness in it unlike the pizza.

Spicy Donuts ( Strawberry Wasabi , Chocolate Labuyo and Chili Cinnamon Donuts )

I like the cute look of the strawberry and other mini donuts! But be ready to take in the spice on top of these cuties! The cinnamon donut is a savior in case you can’t take the spice that much. Or for me, I had to go to the bar and ask for milk with lots of ice which the bartender kindly gave me.

The meal is served with a round of lychee iced tea for a price of Php 1,499.00 net per set. Enjoy the experience of the spicy flavors with a twist starting July 14 to 31, 2018.

Take the spicy challenge and join their contest. You can enjoy the RBG Xplode meal for FREE if your team of 4 people can finish the whole set meal within the 3 minutes given time. Yes you read that right!

Cacao Pairing with Wit’s Sweets & Savouries at Cacao City

Cacao Pairing with Wit’s Sweets & Savouries at Cacao City at the Pasalubong Center located in Palma Gil Street here in Davao City last April 10, 2018 was really a fun and interesting experience of sweet and savory tastes. I would recommend it for you to have an experience of your own when in Davao City. If this plan of Ms. Lizabel “Wit” G. Holganza pushes through, this will be part of your cacao tour while in Davao. Plus a visit to a cacao farm or their family farm which has been for three generations cultivating four varieties of cacao on the two-hectare farm. Then cap it off after with a nice cacao pairing experience just similar to the one they experienced in Hawaii, right at Cacao City!

During our cacao pairing experience, thanks to mommy Ces’ invite, mommy bloggers and friends were joined by Ms. Jennifer Joy Subang along with Ms. Wit who guided us through the learning  and fun experience.

First pairing was mango and cacao nibs.

Cacao City Pasalubong Center mango with Wits cacao nibs IMG_20180410_162642

I have to really be honest that while this was intentionally a cacao pairing, with this first one, I had to say that the cacao nibs used was great when eaten delectably all on its own.

I do love the perfectly sweet mango. I still really enjoyed eating the cacao nibs on its own. Followed next by the sweet mango. Yes, I am a sweet mango lover! *wink*  Yet since this was to be paired, the sweet Philippine mango and delectably flavorful, plus not to forget healthy cacao nibs, was a fairly good pairing.

Second pairing was the salad greens with zesty granola.

Cacao City Pasalubong Center wits cacao nibs coco IMG_20180410_164437_1

This is one healthy way of incorporating the delicious granola into a simple and easy to make healthy salad mix.

You can also have it this way….

Third pairing was dark choco nibs and savory bacon with chocolate.

IMG_20180410_162021

Delicious and savory. Take it easy on this one. Because bacon! *wink*

IMG_20180410_163306

If I was younger, I would definitely indulge in this one!

Fourth pairing, Cacao dark choco nibs and beer.

IMG_20180410_170536

I enjoyed the cacao nibs as with the rest of the pairing. Though I am not a beer drinker. I took a sip and I will stick to the delicious cacao nibs eaten on its own. If you drink beer, then this will be a unique and interesting pairing to taste.

Fifth pairing was with Cacao Tea and they used the one from Cacao Culture Farms.

IMG_20180410_171618

Enjoy it with the tasty granola topped with yogurt.

Now here’ is my personal fave granola variety.

I love the durian granola of Wit’s! It’s been a personal fave! Because it’s durian flavored, it’s delicious and locally made! #supportlocal

A festive 81st Araw Ng Davao celebration was prepared by Waterfront Insular Hotel for tourism executives, corporate patrons, industry partners and friends from the media and bloggers who were all invited to the exclusive preview of the unique dinner buffet.

Last March 16, I took a chance on the Friday and payday traffic at 5PM, which thankfully was not heavy given it was a holiday, to be at the beautiful and only resort hotel in Davao City. I wanted to see once again the couple celebrity chefs who I have already met a few times before here in Davao culinary events that were held in SMX and SM Lanang in the past few years.

Waterfront guests were first hosted to a cocktail reception at the Vinta Bar patio and served an option of punches – Sapak, a refreshing mix of salabat, watermelon and Benefiber and Davao Punch, a rich mixture of guava, calamansi and pomelo. I tasted the Sapak that had an interestingly distinct taste of citrusy spice.

DOT XI Regional Director Antonio Fernando “Butch” Blanco (center), in between GM Lasala & Chef Lau, was present at the launch in Cafe Uno.

A fusion of Filipino and Mindanaoan cuisine highlighting Maranao and Tausug dishes made with Chef Lau’s signature style of cooking will be featured in Cafe Uno’s dinner buffet starting April 1st.

“Everything is done from scratch, using the best quality and seasonal ingredients we can find”, Chef Lau quipped.

The Maranao and Tausug featured dishes include:

Tiyula ltum (left) – beef black soup with burned coconut  +  Plyanggang Chicken (right) – cooked in coconut milk flavored with burned coconut

I enjoyed tasting the curried shrimps and lapu-lapu in turmeric sauce  because I have a fondness for dishes that have coconut or coconut milk and curry. Plus the Lapu-Lapu (grouper) is a popular fave fish which is one of Asia’s most sought after fish and as I grow older, I once again look more for fish dishes when we get to dine buffet style in the city.

The Humba served in the dinner buffet was a fave among some of the guests who were there during the launch including me!
Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao Filipino Food Fiesta dinner buffet starting April 1, 2018 | IMG_20180316_190431 Masarap na Humba
You got to try the humba at the buffet! Pork was not one of my sacrifices for this year’s Lenten season. The launching event happen to fell on a Friday, I felt a little guilt because we probably got too much serving for our share of this delicious humba. We went back at least twice for it that night.  We could have made an instant hashtag #humbaislife because it tasted really good. A real humba treat in there! The meat was soft and tender. If there is melt-in-your-mouth kind of humba… then this was it! Heaven for our palate!
Check out the other food in the buffet. You may crave for extra rice, I warn you. It’s a buffet after all so you can have all the rice that you want to eat with this.
