La Toscana Italian Bar & Restaurant

We had our food trip at La Toscana Italian Bar & Restaurant last night, finally after months of postponement, after we had a tour and photo shoot around People’s Park. 🙂 This little cozy Italian restaurant is located at Door 2 Dacudao Bldg., E. Quirino St., Davao City just beside BDO.

We rode a taxi from People’s Park as H said it is quite far if we just walk. Well I just had a fever that afternoon so I think it is unwise to walk too going to La Toscana if I still wanna enjoy the food trip. You won’t miss it as you will see this blue signage Pizzeria Ristorante Italiano hanging outside.

We immediately went inside excited to see what the place really looks like coz we have been searching online for photos of the place but we found nothing much. Anyway, there were only a few people inside. An Italian couple in a table near the entrance door and on the table next to them were two ladies with a girl. One of the ladies looks familiar aha she is from the same alma mater in college. I wanted to sit on the table for two near the entrance where we can see outside but H chose the table for two near the counter where actually the comfort room is just behind us. Well I realized that he chose the better place as we got better and closer shots. 🙂 Look how nice and cozy the place is! Notice those different kinds of uncooked pasta that they hang on strings above the counter? I did not notice that at first until I looked at this photo below. Nice idea and apt for the resto since they serve Italian pasta dishes!

A pretty waitress in red approached us when we entered and she guided us to our table. She gave each of us their menu (in a red clearbook) and you will see photos (which is a good thing for me so that I need not imagine what their dishes looks like and it would give me an idea if I want it or not) of their antipasti (appetizers), primi piatti (first course) of pasta dishes, pizza and of course my favorite section – desserts since I was telling H earlier on our way to People’s Park that I was craving for something sweet and delicious! And for those who have been following our food trip, you would know that carbonara has been my favorite order when I happen to be some place that serves it. So I tried their carbonara to see how it would taste Italian style. I have heard that their carbonara is color yellow rather than the white one we are accustomed to. I was asked what pasta I wanted. Good thing coz their photo shows spaghetti carbonara like Pizza Hut’s so I chose to have the fettuccine just like in Tata Benito’s.

It looks yummy and it really isn’t that yellow like what I heard and you can see for yourself in the photo below. As for the taste though it passed the standards of my taste buds, I have to say that the fried garlic or something that taste like it that I could taste have somehow made me think that I would still go for the sweeter and creamy taste of Pizza Hut and Tata Benito’s which so far is my favorite among the carbonara’s I have tasted. But I was able to eat a lot of La Toscana’s carbonara and their serving at P195 is good enough for two people already. Somehow it is dry and not as creamy as I wanted it to be. But then it was delicious in its own Italian way.

And of course we ordered pizza since it is an Italian pizzeria after all. We asked the waitress and she recommended their Italian Volcano Pizza (P270) which was their best seller among their pizza. It really looks yummy when it was served. I thought it was hot and spicy as the name volcano suggests. But we were wrong as it was in one word upon our first taste of it – salty! Yes it was for me and H agrees. He was the first one who tasted it and he immediately told me it tasted somewhat salty. I did not really believed him at first as I have never eaten pizza before that was described as such. But I have to agree when I tasted it. There was something in it that made it taste that way. Then when I searched on the internet for what might have made it salty then it must be the anchovies which I found out is mostly commonly used in Italian pizza and causes some to have an instant dislike or disdain in the food as I what I have read. But it also said that the anchovy paste or anchovies is the secret to most delicious Italian dishes especially in cases where one cannot point or figure out that something which gives the Italian flavor to certain dishes. The salami on the pizza was a little salty too but it was delicious!

And their mango juice (P45) was refreshing and relieves the saltiness of the pizza. It was our neutralizer so to speak until our dessert comes. 🙂

For dessert, I decided to try out their Tiramisu (P65) which we were not almost able to eat coz we were so full already when we had it served.

While H ordered the banana split (P85) which was yummy and this was the sweet food I was craving for! I wonder what chocolate ice cream they are using as it is not that sweet but still delicious.
