Bagoong and More Filipino Cuisine at Bagoong Club in Davao

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_190508Bagoong & more Filipino Cuisine at Bagoong Club Resto in Davao!

Bagoong Club Resto has joined the continuously growing and evolving food scene of our city. I am particularly happy to know this area in the University Avenue is becoming alive, especially in the nearby Tulip Drive in Matina, with restos opening and branching out in these areas of the city catering to our foodies in the south area.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_190557

Bagoong Club Resto opened last April 21, 2017 at 123 University Avenue corner Talisay Street in Juna Subdivision, Matina, Davao City.  It is just near the Philippine Women’s College. This is the fourth branch of BC in the Philippines and the first one outside Metro Manila that opened right here in the home city of President Duterte.  The owner of Bagoong Club, Dr. Amable C. Aguiluz IX was born in Davao.

If it is your first time in their area, it won’t be hard to spot the resto particularly at night.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao University Avenue Juna Subd. IMG_20170509_190336

You would immediately and should easily see this large, colorful sign above just like when we were approaching the place that night we dined there with friends from DDI.

The resto has a nice facade and is well lit outside with the sign that spells out the name of the resto – Bagoong Club.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_190637

Their staff were warm and friendly in welcoming every guest and diner that came into the resto making you instantly feel at home. I hope it is a habit that they won’t get tired of doing as part of making their customers feel more at home when they visit and make their dining experience better, if not the best.

Upon entering the resto, you will see this wall of framed photos of celebrities and personalities who have dined at BC branches as well as news feature clippings about Bagoong Club.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_190802

To the right, you will see that they have a mezzanine floor…

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_191559

They have a function room there called ‘Kare-Kare’ for a group of around 40 people. Another function room called ‘Ukoy’ for small group meeting is being used temporarily as their office.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_191739

You will also spot this photo below of their Quezon City branch in 122 Scout Dr. Lazcano Street Sacred Heart, Tomas Morato.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_191726

Their other two branches are in Tagaytay and Antipolo City.

I noticed they seem to have a preference of having old homes renovated to become their restaurants. It gives diners basically the feeling of being  at home just like when most Filipino families gather at the comfort of their own homes during family day which is normally Sundays for many of us, while enjoying together lunch or dinner with classic Filipino dishes.

At BC, they make you feel at home while giving some of those classic Filipino dishes some twist or a unique way of offering home cooked Filipino dishes to their valued customers.

We dined at their ‘Laing’ function room.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_190851

It can hold a small group of people for functions or family gatherings like birthday parties and other celebrations during special occasions.

I actually like the whole home concept of the resto. It may look simple but it is spacious, clean and has a homey feeling for me.

Now here are the dishes of Bagoong Club Davao that we’ve tried…

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_235256_375

Each meal at Bagoong Club comes with an appetizer, a complimentary treat of sliced singkamas (turnips) served with  bagoong dips.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_194216

They were serving it with two kinds: Bagoong Pag-Ibig (sweet) and Bagoong Umaga (spicy/chili).

They have other kinds of bagoong: Bagoong Lipunan (regular), Bagoong Buhay (with coconut milk or gata) and Bagoong Europa (Italian-inspired, mixed with European herbs and spices), Bagoong Asya (Asian flavors) and the Bagoong Club Special (with crab fat).

Patikim-Tikim

Another appetizer or ‘pampagana’ was served…

DavaoFoodTripS.com | Ukoy - Bagoong Club Davao IMG_20170514_135540_477

Ukoy is one of the best sellers in Bagoong Club.  I actually enjoyed eating this as our group were chatting. It is a heap of fried shrimps, slices of carrots and sweet potato fritters.

Basta Binagoongan

Of course Bagoong Club Resto won’t be called such if they don’t serve Filipino binagoongan dishes. In the BC menu, they have Basta Binagoongan – different kinds of bagoong sauce infused dishes such as: Grilled Pork Binagoongan, Crispy Pork Binagoongan, Binagoongan Baboy Mismo,  Binagoongan Combination, Crispy Pata Binagoongan and this one below…

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_201147

They served their Club Binagoongan Special.

One of our all time fave is the pork binagoongan.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_200919

What is interesting to realize for me when we dined at BC for the first time is that their bagoong tasted sweet and not the usual salty type of bagoong that most of us are used to. A friend pointed out that the bagoong dishes in Manila aren’t as salty as we usually expect it to be. Well the taste of bagoong varies now from salty to spicy and sweet. I used to like the spicy bagoong of the BF brand in the market in particular.

Kanya-Kanyang Kare-Kare

Many Filipino families like bagoong added to their dishes like a fixture added to their meals. Or simply have it as a side dish just like this traditional Kare-Kare at BC.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170511_000217_189

This is one of the Kanya-Kanyang Kare-Kare in their menu which offers four kinds of Kare-Kare.  I like their creamy peanut sauce for this one.

Kanin Nga

Filipinos love rice which a must-have at the table during meals. Their Bagoong Rice has a light taste of bagoong…

Katakam-Takam na Minandal

Here’s a best seller that I indulged in… their Pancit Inasal! It’s good for sharing and a tummy-filling dish on its own.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_201642

Higop Muna

Their Bulalo sa Monggo or monggo beans cooked in beef and bone marrow soup is also a must-try dish in BC.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_203453

Puro Kababuyan

Now this popular dish and perhaps an all-time favorite for Filipinos when they dine out and is somehow a must-have in the menu of any popular Filipino restaurants in and out of town… the Crispy Pata!

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_200942

Those pork legs which are deep-fried until golden and crispy! It  has been chopped before they served it on our table. Look at that heap!

They also have Crispy Dinuguan… now if only I have puto! *wink*

Mula sa Puso or crispy puso ng saging sisig that has an interesting dip made of mayonnaise and pig brain!

Nasa Kalye

I find it interesting that BC serves popular Filipino street foods  just like the ISAW!

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170512_012518_046

It is a street food popular in the Philippines which is made from pig or chicken intestines.

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_200714

From what I have heard from other people, they really like BC’s Isaw.

Mga Panghimagas

Dessert is a must on any Filipino family gatherings… Bagoong Club has this Maja, Mais and Turon rolled in one dessert.

Huling Hirit

We enjoyed sharing this Ensaymada Pudding… which is best eaten while it’s served warm.

Mga Panulak

Since it is still summer (or at least for us having an extended summer this year)…

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_195356

Quench your thirst for refreshing drinks on any hot day not just this summer. They have these fresh fruit shakes for you!

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_195715

I got the fresh melon shake and I could only wish it was unlimited! We’ve been having melon drinks at our place with my boys and I am sure they would love it too to have those refreshing fresh fruit shakes!

Another option for refreshment is their Gulaman Lang (walang sago).

Bagoong Club Resto Davao Juna Subd. University Avenue IMG_20170509_195610

There are more dishes you can try at Bagoong Club. Check out below their Davao menu…

It has interesting and amusing names for their menu categories, if you would notice, once you go over their menu.

I will be back there with my boys next time. There are still many dishes we can try on our next visit to this resto. My boys and I still have a long and extended summer vacation ahead of us this year. I  am quite sure we will find time to visit this and explore the other dishes that Bagoong Club has to offer.

Father’s Day is coming up this month. If you are looking for a place to dine with the family and celebrate this special day for dads, well Bagoong Club Resto Davao will be happy to have you and welcome your family! We will love it if you do tag us @DavaoFoodTrip in your photos on social media!

Among those my eyes laid upon at the buffet selection, personally this has to be my fave… salmon! I was so happy even with just this! My fave indulgence in seafood buffets is the salmon. It was the first to be gone from the displayed buffet choices. Diners there that night sure love salmon, just like I do!

The sight of this is simply happiness! I used to have it grilled but then sauteed or however it is cooked, salmon is love for me!

Messy looking ice cream but I don’t really care for it simply satisfied my ube ice cream craving the past few days. There are three other popular ice cream flavors for kids and kids at heart to choose from: mango, strawberry and chocolate.

Also spotted this huge Grana Padano cheese at one small cheese section in the buffet. CHEESE for the cheese lovers out there!  DavaoFoodTripS.com | Grana Padano cheese - Sumptuous Seafood Buffet at Cafe Marco in Marco Polo Davao So don’t miss this special seafood buffet on Fridays and Saturdays only this month! Malagos Chocolate Museum Opens at Malagos Garden Resort

Chocoholics and chocolate lovers rejoice! The Malagos Garden Resort of the Puentespina family in Malagos, Baguio District opened the doors of the Malagos Chocolate Museum to the public on March 08, 2017.

Malagos Chocolate Museum in Malagos Garden Resort Davao City

On its 22 years of service focusing on ecotourism and agritourism, with icons such as Bird Park, Butterfly Sanctuary and Malagos Chocolates here in Davao City, the Puentespinas proudly offers us  a place where to learn and educate ourselves about chocolates, and experience fun making chocolate bar.

A novel attraction that aims to reinforce the company’s advocacy to support local premium, and put the Malagos brand in the chocolate map of the Philippines and in the world. It is said to be the first chocolate museum in the Philippines.

DavaoFoodTripS.com | Tree to bar experience - Malagos Chocolate Museum Opens at Malagos Garden Resort IMG_20170308_181808_942

My boys and I were blessed to be among those who had the first glimpse through an exclusive tour on that day before the public opening. Grateful for Ms. Charisse Puentespina’s invite! 🙂

The Puentespina’s Malagos Chocolates from Davao City have become popular and has continued to gain recognition even abroad.

SINGLE-ORIGIN CHOCOLATES
Our farm, Malagos, takes its name from malakas na agos, which means “strong flow of water”. It is located along the equator where cacao thrives best. Here, the soil, the sun, the climate – our environment – come together to create the unique terroir that gives our beans their identity, an individuality that cannot be replicated anywhere in the world.

Cacao beans sourced from our unique terroir and singular locale carry with them a more distinctive and pronounced taste. Chocolate connoisseurs know that exceptional chocolate is one that can trace its origins and can be produced consistently.
We are proud to say that ours is single-origin chocolate.
Our beans come from only our farms and its immediate environs, from small farmers who also care for their trees themselves. We teach them good agricultural practices so that we get the beans that give us good chocolate. We observe fair trade to make sure everyone benefits from what we believe are one of the best.

Read these below and get to know more about Malagos Chocolate…[2]Malagos Chocolates[1]Malagos Chocolate Museum at Malagos Garden Resort

You may visit www.malagoschocolate.com for more information.

When in Davao at the Malagos Chocolate Museum, for P400 per 200 grams, you can make your own chocolates with various fillings and bring them home as well.

For sure the kids and kids at heart within us would like to sample the chocolate you made. DavaoFoodTripS.com | 200 grams chocolate for P400 - Malagos Chocolate Museum Opens at Malagos Garden Resort IMG_20170308_163525 We had a heavy and delicious merienda buffet at the garden resort during the opening so I was able to resist eating them there plus they gave the pack to us as we were leaving the resort. Don’t forget to have their Malagos Cheeses too at the resort. I love Ms. Olive Puentespina’s mango chevre!

Now here’s a quick tour of this new Malagos Chocolate Museum that you should watch…
