The Griddle Burgers + Sandwiches at Tionko Avenue
The Griddle Burgers + Sandwiches at Tionko Avenue
We have seen The Griddle in a few of the many bazaars we have visited at DavCon or the Davao Convention Center in F. Torres Street in Davao City. It has finally opened a place at the Sunflower Hotel in Tionko Street corner Araullo Street.
My little guy and I were drawn to trying The Griddle’s grilled cheese sandwich since we found them at the bazaars. The first time we went to their stall at a bazaar, it wasn’t available. My son remembered them from then on. Every time he sees them, he wants to try it. Then again, it wasn’t available again at that particular visit. Then somehow we just let it go.
A little side story… my son and I both love the movie Chef (also starring Dustin Hoffman, Sofia Vergara and Robert Downey Jr.) which we’ve seen the nth time over and over again. We particularly love that part of the movie where Chef Carl Casper played by director and producer Jon Favreau makes a really delicious looking grilled cheese sandwich for breakfast for his son in the movie and since then that had made us craving and hunting for a good one that we can find in the city. And The Griddle has that.
Months before, we noticed that the space they now occupy was being renovated. It had us guessing what would open there hoping it would be a new coffee shop or food establishment. One day, we spotted the signage of The Griddle which was still being constructed at that time at the old Sunflower Hotel.
Yes another choice for a place to go when we crave for burgers and sandwiches. It is beside One Fab Pooch, near the new Chix Boy, also near the place of Crazy Wraps (which has closed) and just walking distance from Davao City High School if you are coming from F. Torres Street.

We missed their stress test offer a few days before they finally opened their doors to the public. So I brought my boys here after school on the afternoon of their opening day.

It was time to finally taste their grilled cheese sandwich.

Here below are the three burgers at The Griddle…
We spotted this at the counter waiting to be served.
We tried first their Cheeseburger…
It was good. It must be the taste of a bit healthy version of a cheeseburger. Hubby and I didn’t feel much that guilty taste of indulging in a burger which we were expecting somehow, if you get what we mean.
We also had their Homemade Bacon with Mozzarella Sandwich…
Look at that thick slice of homemade bacon!
It made me say “Oh my goodness!”
I had to take it slow in eating this. I started wishing I was in my younger foodie days. Sharing this and the cheeseburger with the hubby got my tummy filled in no time. It can get quite messy eating this and the burger but it is all part of the experience at The Griddle.
And finally their Grilled Cheese Sandwich!
This was my dear little guy’s order. He said it was good. He gave it 4 out of 5 stars! Yet we both think we want more delicious cheesy taste in it.
*** Second Visit ***

We went back for a second visit to try their fries.
We enjoyed sharing on this Classic Fries (P90) from The Griddle. Their Topped Fries was not available during our visit. Their fries reminded me somehow of how mommy used to cook french fries at home with real potatoes sliced like the usual French fries. I like my mom’s version better though.
We also had this burger …
Their Bacon Burger made of 100% all beef patty, thick slice of their homemade bacon, lettuce barbecue sauce, Jalapeno and house dressing.
I liked and enjoyed the taste of their thick slice of homemade bacon with this burger better than when we had it in a sandwich during our first visit.
It tasted a lot better in this burger. It didn’t have lettuce though which was probably out of stock this time.
The second visit was more satisfying and more relaxed. Initially less expectations but came out more satisfied with the food and experience. The staff were more relaxed too and service was good just like the first. Another reason to come back next time is to try their topped fries and milk shake. Perhaps the other dishes too on their menu.
Take note of their store hours posted below…
They are closed on Monday as day off for the staff.
So far they are usually full so go there early with your friends. Hope you enjoy the food in your visit to The Griddle! #supportlocal
