House of Sambal’s Nasi Lemak
I came upon House of Sambal’s Facebook page a couple of weeks ago or so. So I planned to check them out when hubby is in Davao and we can go try it together. I have been craving for Biryani actually but wanted to try something else and I thought about House of Sambal as we were at the area a few days ago around 4PM onwards when they do open.
Nasi lemak usually consists of fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk. Their rice has turmeric with slices of ginger in it. Served with a side of sambal – a spicy sauce or chili paste, hard boiled eggs slice into half, sliced cucumber, peanuts and fried anchovies. Make sure you eat a little bit of everything to really taste it better.
House of Sambal is located in Vinzon Street in Barrio Obrero. Look for this small building near the street corner. It is near the corner of Nicasio Torres Street and Vinzon. It is near and between Chard’s Place and Angel’s At Work school. Best to call beforehand to pre-order 0927 021 7767 to also know what’s available or you can also check their Facebook Page where they usually post what’s available in the menu for each day.
The owner Ken is very friendly and accommodating. We were also given extra rice for free. Thank you! Hope they will make biryani rice too!
They do entertain dine in, take out and delivery. Their menu sometimes changes. There are days that beef rendang is available instead of the nasi lemak or both are available just like what we chanced upon when we went there. We were actually trying to call ahead but we could not reach the number then no one was answering when it rang. 🙂
But when we got there both dishes were available and there was not customer yet except for a small group of customers for Kapewenoz.
While you are there, might as well try and enjoy the coffee from Kapewenoz which also has a store we spotted in V. Mapa Street near Kuilan’s and Davao Christian High School or Asian United Bank (AUB) Mapa.
I still crave for biryani. Happy to have tried their nasi lemak finally and support small businesses like this. #supportlocal #supportsmallbusiness
