Sooo Pinoy Food Trip na Pilipinas in Davao City at Barbeque Boss

When you want to have a food trip in Davao, you can also check out the many barbecue restaurants around the city. The Sooo Pinoy Food Trip na Pilipinas in Davao City had Barbeque Boss as their last stop for day 1 of our week-long food trip around the city.

Barbecue Boss is one of the known barbecue restaurants that one can find here in Davao. They are known for their delicious and inexpensive pork BBQ among their loyal customers for P6/stick.

I do remember when we first tried their pork barbecue a few years ago, we were brought there by one of our friends in the photography forum in the city during the Kadayawan Festival. It was unforgettable because their barbecue instantly gave us an impression of being really delicious and sold at a price of only  P4-5 a stick then. That was really cheap if you compare it to the price of other barbecue restaurants then. Now it’s sold at P6 a stick and still considerably cheap.

Barbecue is a fave among Filipinos in different provinces around the country and not just Davaoenos. But when you go around Davao for a food trip, you won’t miss seeing a barbecue resto such as Barbecue Boss.

Aside from the pork BBQ, they also serve sizzling steaks such as the Pepper Steak made of tenderized beef with fine ground pepper.

… and the Boss Prime Steak which has a bone and it is tender. I like it!

Their Bangus stuffed with sliced salted egg, diced onions and tomatoes served in dahon ng saging or banana leaf is also one of their bestsellers. When you are looking for fish like what I usually do in restaurants lately as an alternative to pork dishes, I go for anything bangus. Their supply of bangus comes from Davao del Sur.

Salted egg or itlog na maalat is something that I have been exploring lately (thanks to my dear hubby who introduced me to it). Ang sarap din kaining nito and kumain na nakakamay when you have delicious Filipino dishes like this stuffed bangus! It’s indeed more fun eating in the Philippine when you eat with you clean hands. Yes make sure you do wash your hands properly before diving into these delicious Filipino food as you have a food trip with family and friends in places like Barbecue Boss in Davao.

The name of the resto Barbeque Boss simply came about from what their grill man was barking when people and customers pass by their small barbecue stand way back then, “Barbeque boss?” It’s like asking people passing by if the customer or boss (as in maam or sir) wants barbeque. Then until now, they stuck to that name for their barbecue restaurant as it continues to grow and branch out. They have four branches in Davao City: in front of Damosa Gateway in Lanang which is open 24/7, another branch in Matina Town Square, also near People’s Park and their main branch is along Quirino Avenue.

They started off this barbecue business as a sideline in 2002 when an internet cafe along Duterte Street was their main business and they only have a small barbecue stand on the side. After a year then they started a small resto about just eight tables in Rizal Promenade here in Davao. In 2006, they ventured into a full size restaurant where they were basically selling just pork and chicken barbecue. Unilever stepped in and helped them formulate steaks and other dishes that they have now.

The theme of the resto is Boracay-inspired as explained by the owner Sir Radley Barrientos who wanted to bring to Davao the look and feel of Boracay in their alfresco restaurant where people who dine would love to hang out and chill especially after work or on weekends with family and friends.
