Kookels Kooking Restaurant | Sooo Pinoy Food Trip na Pilipinas in Davao City
Our last stop for Day 4 of the Sooo Pinoy Food Trip na Pilipinas in Davao City was at Kookels Kooking Restaurant located at Peace Avenue in Bangkal, Davao City.
The restaurant has an old Filipino architecture inspired building quite similar to the region’s ancestral homes. They have a take out counter where my family is a suki since. Our family gatherings in my parents’ home then would not be complete if we don’t have a liempo and my dad’s fave lechon manok from Kookel’s. That is one thing I miss now that we are now living quite far from the nearest Kookel’s branch. Until now though, we would always have an order from Kookel’s when we have family gatherings during special occasions at home.
Kookel’s served us with the following popular Filipino dishes…
Lechon Manok… one of Filipino’s all-time favorite dish which Kookel’s is also known for. My dad and elder sisters are suki of their lechon manok. We would almost always have Kookel’s lechon manok during family gatherings. One of the best lechon manok’s in Davao.
Deep Fried Native Chicken
Tuna Belly in Banana Leaf
Kilawing Liempo… one of Kookel’s best sellers aside from the pork liempo which is a fave of our family. Many friends also would say their liempo is one of the best in town. Whenever I am asked by my dad or sisters what I want from Kookel’s when we order since our family is one of their suki since, I would first say LIEMPO! *wink*
Kare-Kare… of course this is an all
Ensaladang Pinoy… for a healthier dish, they gave us a serving of a variety of sliced veggies.
This stop at Kookel’s was the most fun and entertaining stop for the whole food trip experience. We had Yano’s Eric Gancio entertain us that night. (Yano is a folk/rock band in the Philippines formed in 1993.) Surprisingly, almost everyone knew his songs. Everyone also took the chance to have a souvenir photo with him before we left to call it a night. It was indeed a fun night for almost everyone in the Sooo Pinoy team.
Some of those in the Sooo Pinoy team also did impromptu performances up front…
… including Unilever’s Sooo Pinoy ambassador, Bogart the Explorer from Davao City who was with us in most of the whole week of food trip around Davao City.

Bogart sang songs in his Australian accent that he has become known for much to the delight of the Sooo Pinoy team and people who were there who were really entertained. This was a really fun night for the Sooo Pinoy team… Thank you Kookel’s!
