Harana | Sooo Pinoy Food Trip na Pilipinas in Davao City

When I think of Harana, I think of delicious and reasonably priced Filipino dishes and sinugba specialties. My boys and I would often dine at the old Mongolian Garden which was our fave but a few months ago it was torn down and now merged into the current Harana restaurant. One of our all time fave there is their buttered fried chicken, grilled bagaybay and boneless bangus frito which are among their best sellers under their Filipino Favorite dishes.

They prepared for us various Filipino dishes in their menu that seems like a Filipino feast for breakfast and we were just starting then the fifth and last day of our Sooo Pinoy food trip here.

Among these Filipino dishes, my fave for this particular food trip would be the binagoongan na baboy, spare ribs, and laing.

I have known Harana as a popular Filipino restaurant in Davao as early as the 80’s but it’s history actually goes back to 1966 where it all started at the small garden at the back of the residence of Atty. and Mrs. Fermin Abella at Juna Subdivision, Matina, Davao City. Their specialty were the original recipe of fried rice and spare ribs by Mrs. Rosario Abella Lizada (photo below). Her grandson Carlo Lizada Aguilar now manages the restaurant.

In the 1970’s it moved to the oldest known location in my memory which is the Harana at the Matina McArthur Highway. My few memories of that place would be mostly parties held there since it has a playground concept. The same concept that the present location of Harana has (along Torres Street which has once been known as the food street in Davao) which recent memories are filled with children’s parties held there since they have a big playground area perfect for those having birthday parties with mostly young kids as guests.

Harana is open to serve lunch from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. and they serve dinner from 5:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. daily.
