Darcy’s Place… Coffee, Tea and Pandas

Hello Darcy! Sounds familiar?

Anyway, I found a friend posted part of a photo of the menu in Facebook yesterday of Darcy’s Place… Coffee, Tea and Pandas. I have been looking for a new place to check out recently after finding Top Tea (which I will hopefully also be able to blog a little about sometime soon).

I searched for Darcy’s Place on FB and found their page. The following day… I meant today, after leaving my son’s school after their lunch break, I told the husband I wanna check out this new place that serves milk tea. We were able to reach the place thanks to Manong Fredo. I remembered only corner Lapu-Lapu Street and Sobrecarey Street. We know for sure this is somewhere near Gino’s Boom Burgers and Chef Lu (if you stand outside of these places just look to the right 45 degrees and you should be able to find this place). When the driver dropped us off at the intersection, I looked for the green signage and it was easy to find. Here it is…

Hubby thought it was closed, I saw in their FB that their store hours starts at 8AM, that means they should be open after lunch. We went in and saw three tables already occupied by groups of students from Ateneo and SPC. The male owner who we were able to chat with at the counter mentioned that most of their customers are students from these two schools. He also said that they are usually full during evenings. They opened last September 8, 2013. They have been open for two weeks already and the owner said they have been almost always full.

We went inside to find our place near the counter. There were still tables vacant in the left side. I browsed through their menu. There seem to be too many items I want to try all at the same time. So I just asked the owner what their best seller is, he recommended Mrs. Darcy’s Tea which had a sign for recommended drink in their menu. I was thinking of trying their wintermelon milk tea which seems to be a common milk tea drink that I try to compare for a start among every milk tea place we go to for the first time, IMO. All their milk teas are all priced at P95 for 16 oz. That’s almost the same price when I order my fave drink at Chatime.

For the sake of trying their milk tea which was basically my purpose for going there anyway, I just ordered one. Hubby said he will pass this time. We could always come back anytime if ever. I was initially reminded of Alley Cat, another milk tea house in Davao when I saw their milk tea photos on FB. They both use the same concept of using bottles in serving their milk tea for dine in. I was watching an episode of KrisTV this morning and I saw the same concept of bottles used in the iced tea that was served in one of the featured stores.

It has become a trend. They say you can help the environment when you use these bottles instead of the usual plastic cups used for take out milk tea. This milk tea was just okay for me though it could have tasted better I hope. I wanna try the wintermelon next time if we do come back. The pearls though was quite hard to bite through. I like the soft pearls of Tea Leaf in City Triangle and in Top Tea. So far, IMO, those two have the softest pearls we’ve tried. Just a personal preference. *wink*

Darcy’s also serve food – lunch and breakfast meals, appetizers, sandwiches, pasta, and salad. I wonder if Mr. Darcy’s Special Ribs will be worth a try.

We didn’t have our lunch yet and I know the husband is hungry. So we just ordered something among their Darcy Meals which is tocino for lunch. Their tocino was like thin, marinated pork chop and not the usual tocino we have in mind. But it was already good enough for the hungry husband.

I was also interested in their Adobo con Coco that I read in the menu. Next time maybe. I was still quite full so I just asked hubby to order extra rice in case I feel like eating. Anyway, I ordered milk tea. That should make me full already after he’s done eating lunch. I wished to skip rice for lunch anyway.

Here’s a panda on the wall behind us where we were seated. The place looks nice and is filled with stuff that is Kawaii + Pandas. While I think mostly of Po the Panda of Kung Fu Panda.

I imagined Britney Spears singing “Tip me baby one more time!!” when I saw this on the counter.

Students hanging out…

It seems many students do like to hang out here. They have free WIFI too.

These panda hats hanging on the bamboo decor are free to use when you want to take your photos with your friends at Darcy’s.

I could not help but notice their tissue holder…
