BonChon Chicken is now in Davao!

The original, crispy Korean fried chicken secret that friends who have tried it, bloggers and other foodies in Manila have been raving about is finally here in Davao. This is the first franchise store outside Metro Manila that is expected to open tomorrow, July 10 or within this week at the ground floor of The Annex of SM City Davao. (Update: Soft opening last July11, 2012)

Thanks to Van Vernon Uyking and Christopher Tan, official franchisees in Davao for making it possible.

We are excited because like for me and my boys, we really love this kind of crispy fried chicken in soy garlic flavor. BonChon Chicken is light and not greasy compared to other fried chicken of its kind that we have tasted before. Aside from soy garlic flavor, they also have the spicy glaze option for the chicken flavor. The soy garlic flavor is addicting that makes me want to forget about my diet honestly. You just want to eat more and more of it. Yes that is what I almost did earlier when hubby and I got to taste for the first time what is known as the crispy chicken secret the world craves for that is now available to Davaoenos.

BonChon Chicken SM Davao Annex - Drumstick and Wings Rack

The chicken recipe is standard in all BonChon outlets worldwide. You can order the original soy garlic or spicy chicken by parts: wings, chops, drum sticks, thigh or choose from their combo A or combo B. I always loved the drumstick part while hubby loves the wings part. I like the more subtle taste of their soy garlic that is perfectly fine for me. Hubby said their spicy glaze isn’t that spicy. But probably for those who don’t like anything spicy should just go for their soy garlic chicken. The sauces are prepacked and is imported from Korea. What the secret ingredient may be, only Mr. Sun, BonChon’s top chef knows.

I enjoyed the delicious and a hint of sweet taste of their Chapchae, Korean stir fried glass noodle dish. I have been craving for noodle dishes lately and this is the best I have tasted this week! I will be back for more of their Chapchae which is actually made sweeter to tailor it to the Pinoy’s taste. This became an instant fave of mine.

This is their Crispy Squid Rice which was delicious when I took a little taste of it.

Beef Bulgogi Rice that hubby liked since he loves beef dishes.

Their Crunchy Chicken Bulgogi…

Fish Taco that was inspired by the California food truck… a mix of Korean and Mexican. They use the cream dory fish. This is among their bestsellers second to their Wings. This is a must try!

Their Beef Bulgogi Wrap looks really delicious… will order this when we come back one of these days.

For those looking for healthier options, try their Caesar Salad. I now have another option when I am on a “diet” and looking for green, leafy veggies.

They also have Kimchi Coleslaw (which we were not able to take a photo of) that hubby said has that kimchi kick… it’s delicious and spicy according to hubby. I will try that next time to satisfy my curiosity when my tummy is good enough to take the challenge.

BonChon Chicken The Annex SM City Davao - Scott Tan & Van Uyking

Van Uyking with Scott Tan enjoyed eating BonChon Chicken. They truly share a passion for BonChon Chicken.

BonChon means “original village” in Korea and BonChon Chicken started in South Korea in 2002. It currently has 20 stores within Metro Manila. It has branches in the US like New York where the managing director of BonChon Chicken Philippines discovered it. The managing director Scott Tan, who lived in New York for 10 years, is responsible for bringing this BonChon Chicken phenomenon to the Philippines. According to Scott Tan, Davao will be their 22nd branch with UP Technohub as their 21st opening tomorrow as well. He opened his first branch in the Philippines in November 2010.

BonChon International also has branches in the US such as in San Francisco, Boston, Virginia and New Jersey. They also have branches in Seoul, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Singapore. They will open soon a branch in Brunei.

We are happy that BonChon has opened its doors to the people of Davao, being the first branch outside Metro Manila. They are already planning to open a second branch in Abreeza Mall Davao then another one in SM Lanang Premier. One will be within later this year and the other one next year.

Scott Tan, managing director of BonChon Chicken Philippines

“We are glad to have begun our national expansion with the opening of our first branch outside of the metro. Davao City is thriving and the food industry here is bullish, and we are very proud to be part of the progressive vibrance of this beautiful city. We are looking forward to offer something new to Davaoenos, the same crispy chicken that has made its mark in the international market.” ~ Scott Tan, managing director of BonChon Chicken Philippines.
