Java Jive: Coffee & Music
When I think of Java Jive, I think of this coffee shop in Davao City (in front of Tori Grill Japanese Barbeque Restaurant) which is open 24/7 serving COFFEE with MUSIC… hence I think the place is named JAVA JIVE, a homegrown Davao coffee shop that is PROUDLY PINOY!
One can enjoy live acoustic performances of local and budding singers sharing their interest, passion and talent in singing and playing musical instruments to the coffee shop patrons. You can see a small stage they have set up at the front area of the coffee shop.
Also to be noted as an interesting feature in this particular coffee shop are the piano keys decor hanging above in the ceiling.
At the wall at the back of the coffee shop, you’d see displayed photos of personalities in Davao and others like Juris Fernandez-Lim, Wency Cornejo, former North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel “Manny” Pinol, DOT ASec. Art Boncato Jr. among a few others.
Since they opened, we have not visited them until today only for the very first time since we were invited for a dinner event at Carmen’s Garden Bistro which is located just across the coffee shop. We met AJ of Java Jive at Carmen’s too. Turns out they own both.
We went to Java Jive early coz I also needed to check out this coffee shop too while we were already there. We still had about an hour to spare before the dinner anyway.
There were just us and a few guys at one corner who were practicing singing near the small stage that is set up in the front area when we arrived there.
I wished we could go back after dinner and listen to those guys perform coz they do sound good. But we had a dinner to go to and had to go home early since I have my little guy with me.
In as much as I wanted to try their coffee, I am trying to stay away from caffeine as much possible now.
I decided to just order their Durian Espresso Chill (P170) because I wanted to try this durian-infused drink. It was good. I am reminded of Cafe Demitasse’s Durian Frappe which I liked better. But when you’re in Davao and in Java Jive, try this one. Let me know what you think.
We skipped ordering food since we were going to a dinner. I did look into their pastries. Hope we can try them next time.
Here are some of their pastries on display when we were there.
These blue colored Forteassimo macarons were labeled as durian-flavored macarons. I was tempted to try one but I was keeping my tummy empty so I can enjoy the dinner that we were going to then. We also already had the durian chill so enough durian for tonight.
Juris Royal Red Velvet Cupcake (P65)
Java Jive Symphony Cheesecake (P95/slice)
What I like most about this coffee shop is the live music they have every night if I am not mistaken. That’s one thing that usually attracts my attention to an establishment. I prefer quiet and relaxing music though. It’s good that Java Jive offers a venue where local singers can showcase and share their talent in a venue that has is a jazz and OPM-themed bistro cafe that we can consider homegrown here in Davao City.
Java Jive is located at 1.18 Centron Building, Quirino Street corner General Luna Street, Davao City.
