My boys and I went to SM Lanang to do our grocery errand last Thursday afternoon. While waiting for my husband to join us at SMLA coming from a quick yet important visit to his office, my little boy and I went to check the exhibit at the 22nd MinBizCon at the SMX Convention Center. Going down, I saw their poster near the escalator announcing the opening of the new and bigger resto.

I didn’t see the update or any announcement if there was any from SM Lanang’s Facebook page when I checked recently. So out of curiosity, when the husband finally came I told him that the TFB has opened at the Fountain Court area. We were quite hungry then so we decided to have an afternoon snack there so we can also check out the new resto.

It’s bigger than I thought! As we went out of the SM Supermarket exit to the fountain court area, I immediately saw the place. It is located between Mesa and the SM Lanang Supermarket entrance/exit. It’s near Hog’s Breath.

“Davao can now experience Parisian taste at The French Baker. Bigger, bolder, spacious, unique and elegant interiors will make you feel like in Paris.”

I instantly liked the cozy ambiance of the resto.  It’s new after all as it just opened earlier that day. Upon entering the resto, I immediately noticed this section shown below. It would be nice to stay here and enjoy coffee or tea with your spouse, or with a dear friend, or with your mom/dad/sister, or with special someone on your date.

To the left upon entering is this area that reminds me of the similar one they had at their outlet inside SM Lanang at the Atrium area below Starbucks.

Another shot shows at the back area is a function room.

They have a closed room section which we assume serves as their function room for small private functions, meetings, dining, and small parties and gatherings for families, etc. This could accommodate around 40 or more people.

To the right you will find their display of bread and pastries for take out and dine in order.

I spotted their 100% Whole Grain Bread which is said to be a great source of fiber, manganese and magnesium (for those with high cholesterol and with high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and I read it helps prevent gallstones. I also spotted their Turnovers of which the chicken turnover is a fave.

“French Baker’s lineup of healthy breads now includes whole-wheat, multi-grain, and the 100% Whole Grain Bread.”

I will try their Chocolate Palmier next time. I wanted this but the little boy wanted their pesto garlic stick which is a fave of his there. I wanted us to eat only a little for our snacks since we will be having dinner later on. We were here just for snacks.

These colorful macarons were really tempting! I’ll try the other flavors I have not tried before next time. It’s hard trying to be on a diet for a foodie when you see these! *wink*

“The French Baker Parisian Macarons. Taste the unique Parisian pastry only at your freshness baker.”

I left the counter to stay away from temptation of the macarons. Next time macarons, next time.

Behind their display counter, you’ll see this working area.

Next to it is this section leading to the kitchen area.

I went back to our table for it’s time to order. Here’s their menu…

They placed their paper mats on the table while we were ordering. I like this for what I see are famous landmarks and places in Paris, France that I wish we’d get to see one day. Everyone’s free to dream and wish anyway.

Since it was still their opening day, most of the items on their menu are not yet available. The ones we were looking for were not yet available or are out of stock already like their club sandwich. Hubby and I decided to go for their Fettucini Ala Carbonara (P165). It is cooked Fettucini pasta tossed in carbanara sauce made with bacon and cheese-flavored eggs, sided with grilled foccacia slices or French garlic toast.

It can be good for sharing for two persons. Okay maybe not depending on one’s appetite. *wink*

Their service water (reminds me of the water served at Cafe Mary Grace). Theirs has a slice of lemon, orange, and mint leaves. I didn’t notice anything much with the taste. What I do at home is I use lemon slices and last time I even squeezed out the juice to make the most out of it. At certain times it was a combination of slices of lemon and cucumber for us at home. I still have to try it with mint leaves. Where can we buy fresh mint leaves here in Davao?

I also saw these variety of tea that they serve there.

This section is where they prepare the drinks.

We ended ordering their brewed citrus iced tea instead.

As for the little boy, well he really has a thing for bread especially when it has garlic. He requested for his fave Pesto Garlic stick (P18/stick or piece). These are slices of foccacia bread.
This gives the place a feeling like you’re outdoors. Hubby saw the sign La brasserie again and asked what it meant. I looked it up and it “is a type of French restaurant with a relaxed, upscale setting, which serves single dishes and other meals.”

Hot soup of the day.

Before leaving, I noticed these bread near the round table near us beside the soup for the day.

Then I took a photo of this chandelier that caught my attention when we first came in.

Last few shots outside as night was drawing in when we left their new and bigger resto.

I got the chance to talk to Ms. Abby from the French Baker Marketing department who told me they would be opening at the SMLA Fountain Court sometime May this year and I didn’t hear from her anymore. So it was a surprise to know they have opened it finally. To close friends who knew of an unfortunate experience we had at their open resto at the SMLA atrium last January, I have actually tried to forget that and moved on. Though I still wish with a teeny weeny bit of hope that I could still miraculously recover my beloved LX5 and other important IDs that were inside my purple LongChamp bag. All gone and now I just have a smaller purple Kimbell bag bought from SMLA Dept. Store. The French Baker at the Atrium had become one of our fave dining place before that happened. I had expressed my appreciation on Mr. Johnlu Koa gesture to address that incident through Ms. Abby who came from Manila and met me about a month or so after the incident.

We have actually made a comeback food trip there and dined there a few months after during Mother’s Day. Now with this nice, new and bigger resto of The French Baker at the Fountain Court, I look forward to coming back more to enjoy hot, fresh and delicious pastries and dishes. I expect most dishes to be served freshly cooked and hot now here since they can prepare and cook them here instead of relying on supply from Manila from what they said before.

The French Baker, after all is – your original Freshness Baker! We in Davao expect them to remain constant and true in their commitment to every Filipino to enjoy freshly-baked, high-quality, and affordable breads. Bon appetit!

Hope to be back there soon. My son wants to go back as soon as possible but am stuck home with work lately. Blessings!

Vous revoir bientôt… See you soon The French Baker!
